2-1 switch..still confused...what happens to PM nap?
« on: January 22, 2007, 14:49:49 pm »
K..I think I'm seriously having a brain fart...
If I continuously put M down later for her am nap like hte book says, what happens to her pm nap? If her am nap gets closer and closer to her pm nap, she isn't going to want to go down 2 hours after being awake, kwim?

So today we start extending her am nap..she will go down at 10:15 for 3 days..etc...
Her PM nap is usually at 2pm...both naps are 1.5 hours...

What do I do for the pm nap? Still put her down at 2pm?

NOW another question.. On saturday there was a birthday party so she didn't have an am nap. We waited till 1pm or so (we were still out) till her nap. But like clockwork, she woke after 1.5 hours. So HOW do I get her to do 2+ hours with one long nap when she's programed to wake after 1.5 hours?

Lordy I am thick, aren't i?
:)

What I would do is push her PM nap back as well, but wake her up at the same time to preserve bedtime (which largely means you'll have a grumpy child in the afternoon for a bit).  She may also start refusing the PM nap as the AM one gets later.  DD started taking a short AM and a long PM and then just refused to take a second one, so we dropped the short one in a big hurry -- stretching her out to after lunch was tough for a few days but she adapted to it well.  As for the length, that's something that comes slowly as well.  I think their bodies just have to get used to the one nap.

Ok..me being dumb again.....what do you mean push it back? ie 2:30 and wake her at her normal 3:30 (so the pm nap gets shorter and shorter ie she'll only get an hour as oppsed to an hour and a half). She won't be that grumpy I don't think will it only is 1/2 an hour LOL..but she'll be damn tired at night. no wonder I don't want to make the transition LOL :P

Yes, that's exactly what I mean -- chances are she won't go down for her PM nap at the regular time if she's just had an AM nap not too long ago.
