need help with EASY, lengthening A time
« on: January 22, 2007, 21:45:49 pm »
Hi, I'm looking for some advice, I hope someone can help me with my routine...
I think my lo is ready for longer A time, she's one week off 7 months, but I'm not really sure how to adapt her EASY routine, her routine - as it was:
8/8.30 wake
E  9 bottle 7 oz then breakfast cereal at around 9.30

S  10.30/11 nap  45mins
E  12 lunch
A
S  1.30 nap   45 mins
E  3pm bottle 7 oz
A
S  4.30 nap 45 mins (sometimes a bit longer)
E  5.30/6  tea + bottle 4oz
A
S  bath 7.30, bottle 7oz and bed 8ish

What I'm confused about is how to extend her A time to 3 hours and still keep EASY...so her routine would be:

8/8.30 wake
E  9am bottle 7 oz then cereal at around 9.30
A
S  11/11.30
E  12.30 lunch

A  (if her extend her A time to 3 hours here then her nap is due at 3.30ish but her bottle is due at 3pm

E 3pm bottle
S 3.30 sleep (hoping to extend this past 45 mins)
E  5.30/6  tea + bottle 4oz
S  bath 7.30, bottle 7oz and bed 8ish

So, will it be ok to have EAE in the middle of the day? I'm worried that she will be very tired at her 3 oclock bottle and fall asleep while drinking (don't want to 'feed her to sleep')

Any suggestions or comments would be really helpful.

ps - one other question: is she too old for w2s?

With the age your lo is, you should be trying to extend the time between feeds to 3.5 or even 4 hours.  That would then allow you to fit the naps in, and may even encourage the naps to be a bit longer.

I'm at the same point with my DS. At the moment he is having 4 bottles, 3 of which are followed by solids. He is having 3 naps a day too. Its so difficult to judge which bottle to drop and which sleep to extend or drop. At the moment my EASY looks like this;

Wake 6.30am

E 7am        7oz bottle then cereal
A 7.30am
S 9.20am       nap 2 hrs
E 11.20am      4 oz bottle then jar of baby food
A 11.50am
S 1.20pm       nap 45 mins
A 2pm
E 3.20pm       4 oz bottle then yoghurt / pudding
A 3.40pm
S 4.30pm       nap 45 mins to an hour
A 5.30pm
E 7.15pm       7 oz bottle
S 7.30pm

As you can see I need to drop one of the daytime feeds as he only has 4 oz on each. Also think the 1pm nap will go in a few weeks too. In which case I'll probably move my EASY to be something like;

E 7am bottle and cereal
A
S 9.30am nap for 1 1/2 hrs hrs
E 11am solids and sippy cup of water
A
E 1pm bottle
A
S 2.30pm nap for 1 1/2 hrs
E 4pm solids and sippy cup of water
A
E 7pm bottle
S 7.30pm bedtime

That's my plan... but you never know!

Loube - how old is your lo?
You should work on extending 2nd A time. and Extending 2nd nap.  Then you could look at dropping the last nap, but that would need to be gradual - shortening the last nap as the 2nd one increases in length. Which is pretty much what you planned. ;D ;D

Just work towards what you have planned very slowly, so as not to risk your lo getting overtired.
