HOW MUCH MILK?????
« on: January 25, 2007, 20:08:10 pm »
My ped old me that 10-12 oz of milk a day is fine for dd. She's 13mo.  Everything else I read says 16-24.  She gets about 10 maybe 12 everyday.  She does eat cottage cheese, yogurt and other cheese on a regular basis.  Does she need more milk?  Between meals I give her water when she's thirsty.  She never gets juice.  Why the need for 16-24 oz of milk?  How much are your 13mo lo's drinking?

LOL Emma, so true! Colin's milk intake varies a lot from day to day. Sometimes it's 16+ oz and other days he'll only take 3 or 6 or some other small amount. Those days I make sure he gets plenty of dairy in his diet. I've mentioned this to his doctor and she said that's normal and absolutely fine.

The thing is I think she would drink more.  If she finishes her 3 oz in the morn should I offer more?  I cut it back cause of what the ped said but around here everyone seems to be averaging more.  She's normal size very tall 99% and 75% weight.  I guess I am probably concerned for nothing huh?

No, he just told me that she should be drinking 10-12 oz a day.  She doesn't get juice.  I will give her water between meals.  So I offer her what I posted so I can stay within those guidelines.  I just don't know if those guidelines are ok?  I trust my ped and I will ask him when we go again to clarify but until then....

Our guidelines are around 20 oz in a day, but this includes milk in cereal and food, as well as yogurts, cheeses, custards etc.

I wish I could actually get my DS to take those amounts of milk.  Some days he will happily drink 6, and then we have days like today where he takes none.  I know he is teething so guess this could be the case too.  Thankfully I can get 8oz in his cereal, and he loves his yogurts.
