Walking Shoes?

My friend is getting her lo fitted for walking shoes. Do any of you use them or not? I never heard of them really before.

When dd1 started walking I bought her "real"sneakers at Stride Rite - they measured her feet there to se how big they were, but I didn't think they were anything special for walking, just something that would protect her feet.  Do you have a link to a website with the shoes on it, I'm not exactly sure what you mean.

Is it summer or winter where you are?  Apparently barefoot is the best for getting the hang of walking but if its too cold then thats not an option.

Oh yeah, as Jenny says barefoot as much as possible -- dd only wears shoes outside where she could hurt her feet.

I got DS some 'proper' shoes when he started walking round town with me, a must! def worth getting them acurately measured. ALso ankle high are best as they support ankle. WHen DS got more proficient I got him some nike's too  as the others are expensive so keep them for special occasions

:)I've always heard that barefoot is better, too.  However, my 17 month old really took off with the whole walking thing once I bought him some cool stride rites.  They seemed to give him the extra surface area he needed on the bottom of his feet.  I'm a big fan of stride rites because both of my little guys have wide feet and these shoes seem to be built just for them.
