Thanks for all your help I would really like to get them off the dummy but when you have twins it is a whole different ball game, in the day when both are crying, having a dummy is a god send as trying to sort out two babies can be quite difficult.  I really wish they would just sleep right through and perhaps now think that it is something that I have done to stop them from doing that.  I just hate the throught of losing the dummy as it works great throughout the day for me. 

how would you know if they were waking because of over tiredness or too much sleep in the day though

They can put it in themselves providing they can find it, my son sometimes has 6 in his bed but he pushes them all out of the bed at night.  I also find is that my daughter goes on to her back then I have to put her back on her belly even though she knows how do it in the day.
