Failed at weaning!!!
« on: February 13, 2007, 17:38:05 pm »
So I thought I was all ready to wean my 15mo off her last feed.  We were down to just the bed time one and only a few minutes on each side, but I can;t do it yet!

I was rushed into it as I have a work thing on in a month's time in the evening and had to stop feeding her at bedtime.  I managed two days... I was so upset.....she was fine, although had become obsessed with putting her cheek on my bare tummy in the daytime and occassionally asking for 'milt'.  Then I had a brainwave... why couldn;t I just move the feed to the afternoon, that way I have freedom to let others put her to bed if I need to but still feed for a bit longer :) :) :)

Also have a new puppy and thought my antibodies may be needed at this time ;)

Lots of hugs. I am so glad you are waiting until the time is right for both of you. And you didn't "fail at weaning", you are obviously a very caring and loving Mom who wants to do the very best for your lo.

AWWW Hugs to you.
Michelle is right. You didn't fail at weaning.
Would she take a bottle of EBM for just that one night?

She's actually gone to bed fine the last two nights with no milk at all so I'm happy with that.  Will just continue to feed her when she wakes from afternoon nap I think :)  that will be an easier one to stop when it comes to it for real :)

Good for you!!
And weaning is a long continuous process...
So infact what you did was take another step on the road - certainly not 'failing'.

I read this earlier and just wanted to congratulate you for
(i) bf for 15 months
(ii) for coming up with a gentle solution that should suit both of you

Sounds that neither of you are quite ready yet!

Take care
Kat x  :)
