Awake Time at 5.5 months
« on: February 13, 2007, 20:33:00 pm »
Hi

I posted a topic yesterday but haven't had any replies so I presume my post was too long.  To put the question more simply, is 1.5 hours up too little for a 5.5 month old?  My lo was doing closer to 2 but has gone back to 1.5 hours (sometimes less, sometimes a little more) for the past 2 weeks.  She currently has a low grade ear infection but we are not sure if this is a new thing or if it has been going on for 2 weeks.  We also wonder if she is teething.  She has been VERY grumpy most of the time for the past 2 weeks and has started waking at 3am rather than sleeping through from 7pm to 5.30am as she was doing.  Her naps are mostly 1.5 hours with the odd 2 hour nap.  She tends to do 40min naps if she stays up for 2 hours, even if the awake time has been happy & she has settled well for the nap.

hi Fiona, sorry you didn't get any replies yesterday.

here's the link to typical A times:

and as of your situation- first make sure your baby is 100% healthy and then try working on routine again. I suppose you're on 4 hrs EASY when she's fine? 1,5hrs is a bit short for 5,5 month old Lo.

keep us posted how you're getting on.

Hi,

No, she is still on a 3 or 3.5 hour easy.  I've tried to stretch her but she does 1.5 hours up, 1.5 hours down and then won't play happily until she is fed...I guess she is hungry.  I've tried and tried to change her to a 3.5 or 4 hour easy but it hasn't worked.

She currently has a mild ear infection and we think she may be teething but this unsettledness has been going on for 2.5 weeks.  Prior to that she was moving towards 2 hours up and hence our EASY was often 3.5 hours.  At the moment, if she is up for 2 hours she only does a 40min nap as I guess she gets overtired.
