My DS and I say "nite-nite" to various things (each pet that is nearby, whatever toy he was playing with, the hall as I shut the bedroom door, the day/outside as I shut the blinds, etc.) then I sit in the rocker and read him books and then I rock him and sing him a song.  The number of books I read and whether or not I sing the entire song depends on his level of tiredness.  He just needs more winddown time sometimes.  Sometimes before we say goodnight to the pets I play soft music as we play and sometimes I will just hold him and rock him or sway with him to it. I think I really need to start doing that every time.  It calm him nicely.  Anyway, at the end of it all as I lay him down in his crib I say "nite-nite" to him and "it is time for sleepies".

I agree with Rae-Anne - she has a great windown routine.

Just be sure to keep it quiet and low key, so that he does not get over stimulated.

I am glad to report that Emily has slept from 7-6:45 the last two nights without waking up.  We are still having a problem getting her to sleep quickly for her naps.  Sometimes she is playing for over an hour before falling asleep.  She is showing the signs of being tired, we wind down for about 15 minutes, then she is wide awake in the crib to play for about an hour.

Also at 10 months how many ounces should she be taking with each bottle?  She seemed very hungry this morning.  She took 8 oz. and was still hungry so I gave her 4 more.  Am I not giving her enough solids or is this because she is sleeping through the night and not having a feeding?

Once again thanks so much for all your support!

Wow that is fantastic news.

I don't think it is a bad thing that she is taking so much milk in the morning - she is probably really hungry after not having anything all night.  As long as it is not affecting her appetite at all I would not worry about it.

At this age she still needs about 21oz a day including milk in her cereal and cooking as well as yogurts and cheeses.

Hope this helps
