4.5 month soiled diaper frequency ?

You'd think by the 2nd child I'd have this figured out.  DS went through growth spurt about 1 wk ago.  I have upped his intake and he is now having at least 2 sometimes 3 and 4 soiled diapers in a 24hr period is this abnormal.  He was at the 10% in wt 2 days prior to his growth spurt and 50% in wt. His intake seems to have doubled according to his output....especially his frequent FULL wet diapers.

I think there's an enormous range of normal when it comes to soiled diapers. With wet nappies I've never heard of frequency being a worry. The only concern might be if it was thin watery poo i.e diarrhea. What you've described certainly isn't abnormal and his increase in intake would account for it - he's adjusting to new levels. I don't think you should worry.

I recall my first being like that and my second looks pretty much the same!  ::) More work for mommy...  ;)

I was told by my health vistor it ment over feeding! Not sure how true that is, Also said not to worry if your baby does not soil his/her nappy for a week as breast fed babies Use all the milk they are having. Not sure if this helps. But thought i would say. Anna

My lo has at least 6 dirty diapers a day  ::).  But my first would go two days without anything and once went to 5 days.  All very normal.

And Anna, I would politely disagree with the info your health visitor gave you.  I have never heard of a lot of soiled diapers to indicate over feeding.

Update. First, thanks for all the replys.  I have to agree with all of you. Yes, Anna was right.  I was overfeeding him by topping him off with  bottles of formula because I was afraid he was hungry and turns out he was really tired.  He was spitting up a lot (should have been a clue). Yesterday, I worked on getting my BM production back up and he is back to 1-2 soiled in 24hr period.  I agree that you can't overfeed BF'd babes ...unless you supplemented like I did by sticking the bottle in right after LO is finished eating and starts to cry.   :-\
