Help really short A times
« on: March 03, 2007, 17:30:17 pm »
Hi
not sure if I am posting this in the correct place but my daughter is 6 months old and has very short A times.  I follow her yawning and eye rubbing cues but sometime that could be as little as 1 hr after she has awaken.  Is it possible that she is rubbing her eyes for reasons besides being tired?  The most she will stay up is 2.5 hours and that is pushing it.  She sleeps 11 hrs at night.
Do I follow her cues still or try to keep her up and risk overtired?  I'm especially afraid of letting her get overtired now that she's paci weaned as she has a difficult time calming herself without it if she gets worked up(she's mostly spirited with some angel) Also which A time is the best to try to extend?

Really confused please help

My daughter didn't have more than 2.5 hours worth of A times until about 9/10 months so there is nothing wrong with you lo staying awake 'only' 2.5 hours as she is only 6 months old. :D  Each lo's needs are different and can't be compaired to others.  If we did that for evertying we would drive ourselves crazy.  ;D  :P

My daughter also has a habit of rubbing her eyes and yawning all the time.  I just payed with it for a few days.  If she took awhile to go down or had a hard time going to sleep I knew I needed to adjust and once I figured out about what length worked best with her I just tried to keep her up about that long.  That being said some days she could do more and some days could do less so it is a mix of knowing what she needs and following her cues.

Her routine on a good day looks something like this
6:30 bottle
7:30 cereal fruit
815 nap till 10 on a good day (shes a half hour napper and doesnt always extend
10:30 bottle
11:30 cereal veg
12:00 Nap till 1:30(again if manage to extend)
2:30 bottle
3:30 nap till 4:30
5:00 cereal and veg
6 pm bath/bottle/ asleep by 7:00
Any advice would be welcome as I am starting to suspect her nap issues are tied to her short A times.  At grandmas yesterday she got overstimed and was up for 3 hrs.  It took 45 mins to get her to settle down for a nap but then she slept for 1.5 hours on her own without my needing to help her extend. Of course she was still a bit cranky after she got up.
