high chairs

I am looking into high chairs right now and am thinking that I may get one that hooks onto a regular chair.  I was wondering what everyone uses and their opinion on a self standing high chair as opposed to one that hooks to a chair.  any thoughts???

We have a regular high chair and one that attaches to a chair.  I used the regular high chair when my son first started solids and he could sit up, but still needed some support.  We probably used it for 2 months.  Then we started using the booster seat with tray that attaches to the chair.  I love it and so does my son!  He gets to sit at the table with us, plus it is very portable.  The regular high chairs take up a lot of space in the kitchen.  If I had to do it over again, I would just have gotten the portable one.

For #1, we had the kind that straps onto the regular chair because we didn't have room for a stand-alone high chair in our old house. I HATED it. There are several spots where the straps and bosster itself rubbed the paint off our kitchen chair. Soooo much crud and gunk got stuck under the booster where it sat on the chair. And once Tyler decided he wanted to sit at the table, he refused to have anything to do with it so we never got to use it as anything other than a high chair.

For #2, I decided to get an actual high chair now that we have the room for it. The seat height on most models can be adjusted, so I'm hoping we can pull it up to the table without the tray when she's old enough.

I have both - hated the high chair and love the booster seat.  It's a great booster - very easy to put set up and we do the towel thing under it too.  We can pull her right up to the table with us now too which she loves.  The high chair is bulky, expensive, inconvenient, and doesn't fit under any of our tables - although I'm sure there are other brands that would. Most babies over 6 months don't really need to lean back much anyway, so I don't know that you NEED to have one that tilts...

I was given a full sized high chair as a gift and do love it. However now I look back and feel It would have been better to get the booster type that attaches to a adult chair.  You can get ones that tilt back and adjust for small babies, come with a tray etc this way you have the same seat from baby through toddlerhood.  Many toddlers end up hating the high chair and wanna be at the table with mommy and daddy so then you end up with two chairs lol.  Kind of a waste. Also the booster seat can be taken to peoples houses or restaurants that dont have high chairs.

So now i have two!! Wish I only  had one!  Just make sure if you do it, get one that adjust, tilts and fits up to as high a weight as you can find so you can keep your son in it longer or unitl you think hes good out of it. One I have is up to 50 pounds!

I used a high chair until about 4months ago as i was given it but DD perfers to sit at the table with us so i got a booster and she loves it and it is great as we can take it with us everywhere. I am thinking of selling my high chair and like Stacy said getting a booster seat that reclines for the next one. The high chair takes up so much room as well. Oh well you live and learn

Booster for my LO!  I love having the flexibility of bringing it with us when we go out.  It's familiar to our LO and knows right away it's time to eat when he's in it.  His booster is also so easy to clean.  I put the seat in the tub and use the shower head to rinse it out.  Also the trays are dishwasher safe.

I think I have decided on the booster type.  do you have suggestions for brands or what specifics to look for.  We don't have much room and I think it would be better.  If I change my mind at least I havn't spent 100 plus dollars on it.  My neighbor has one without padding, do they make them with and without and if they do which is better?

I prefer that there is no padding because it's easier to wash.  My thoughts are that my LO already has a diaper and that offers plenty of padding on his bum bum.

We had a hand me down high chair from friends and am I ever glad.  We stopped using it at 8 months.  We now have this fantastic booster seat that attaches right to the table, so it doesn't take up a chair.  It travels with us everywhere and we have even used it outdoors on a picnic table.  I got it on amazon and they have cheaper versions on target.com The one I have is by Chicco who make very good prodcuts, I believe they are Italian.  Here is a pic of it when he was only 9 months.

We also have the fisher price model and absolutely love it!  For small spaces, its so much easier and I do like how portable it is--we've taken it camping, used to take it outside when we wanted to eat on the balcony or by the pool at our apt.  And I find it pretty easy to just wipe up under it when it gets messy and haven't had any problems with it rubbing the finish off on our chairs (Savannah's forks on the table are a whole different story )

Hi, We also have a fisher price high chair that attaches onto an adult size chair.  It is the space saver model.  It is great!!!  It reclines, so in the beginning we just used it as a chair in the kitchen.  Once we started feeding her we were able to sit her up straight.  It has a pad on it, a five point harness and adjustable armrests.  The tray can go straight into the dishwasher and the chair is very portable.  I would recommend this model to anyone!!!!

I just bought that one for travelling and never thought to try it out at home!  It came highly recommended.  I love the high chair we have, but it does get so filthy.  I will definitely try the towel under the booster when I use it.  Thanks for the idea.
