In the UK we are told to use regular toothpaste as the fluoride is good for strenghening the teeth. You just make sure that you are only putting a small pea sized amount on their brush and it will be fine. It is only when consumed in large quantities that it may cause problems.

Here in the states most water systems have flouride and if there is not enough we are prescribed flouride.  In our area there is a little flouride in the water so the DR prescribed flouride drops so we give her that and use training toothpaste.  I guess the best thing is to talk to your DR but err on the side of caution until then.  HTH
