How to tweak routine for longer A time

Hi,

Daniel is 9 months now and we have been slowly increasing A time. At present he is happiest at 2.45h A time.

He is an early riser, always has been a 5,30am wake up, but we are getting more 6am these days.

I was hoping to get some help to tweak his routine to allow his to stretch to 3 hour A time, without making bedtime later. Most days he will sleep between 1-1.15 hour naps and every week he will maybe sleep 11/2-2 hours, so really he is up and down daily with his nap times, and for the past month or so rarely 3 hours. He seems to sleep 11-11 1/2 hours at night.

This is our routine at the moment..

WAKE................5.30/6.00

BOTTLE............6.30
SOLIDS.............7.30
A TIME..............2.45h
ASLEEP.............8.15/8.45

NAP...................45-1.30h

BOTTLE............10.30
SOLIDS.............11.30
A TIME...............2.45h
ASLEEP.............12.30/1.00

NAP...................1-1.30h

BOTTLE.............2.30
SOLIDS..............5.00
BATH.................5.30
A TIME..............4.00h/4.30
BOTTLE.............6.00

BED...................6.15/6.30

Hi Sharon,

At 9 months I don't recommend a 3 hour A time.  2 or 2.5 hour is a better time frame to shoot for.  For the most part once babies make the 2-1 nap transition is when their A time gets to be 3hours+.  By making his A time longer you'll be cutting into his S time which he still needs at this age. If his naps seem to be a little out of whack, you can try to have a more physical A time to see if that helps him to nap better.
