How to quote?
« on: March 12, 2007, 09:47:07 am »
I am sure this has been asked before but we are back to dial-up speed and its taking forever to read through the pages. Basically I need help on how to quote. At the moment I click the reply button and then I press "Insert quote" which is on the top right corner of the post BUT the whole post is then quoted and its a pain cause I want to opnly quote a section. I don't mind cutting the rest out but what if I want to quote more than once and then I have to cut things out again.

Is there an easier way to do this other than cutting the unwanted wording out???

Many thanks
Layla

I usually cut and paste from the actual post (even when it's teeny tiny under a reply box)

So I highlight desired text, right-click and choose copy. Paste into reply box - highlight and then click 'quote' icon.

Is that easier - actually it might not be!! I find it easier than deleting tons.

So I highlight desired text, right-click and choose copy. Paste into reply box - highlight and then click 'quote' icon.

That's probably the quickest and easiest option.  You can also insert a whole quote into the Quick Reply box at the bottom of each page by clicking on the "Quote" button of each post, that would save you one page load if you're on dialup, though the Quick Reply box doesn't have a lot of viewing room.

If I'm multiple quoting from one large block of text I usually manually input the quote code myself, so at the beginning of the text, I would type
Code: [Select]
which opens the quote, and then at the end of the quote I would type
Code: [Select]
which closes the quote.  If you want to put the name of the person you're quoting then you would type
Code: [Select]
instead of just
Code: [Select]
Although I think Emma's method is probably the easiest :P ;D My method is just another way :)

Cool thanks Emma & Gareth. Thats is so much easier. The name of the person doesn't come up thou but thats ok i guess. They'll know who I am quoting.

Thanks again - this always had me puzzled. I was sure there was an easier way but all this time was trying to figure it out on my own  ::) (without much luck, btw)
