wailing at nappy change and bath time
« on: March 14, 2007, 20:52:41 pm »
Hi from Ireland. Our daughter is almost 3 weeks old (d.o.b. Feb 23) and becomes very upset/distressed at nappy change and bath time. It's heartbreaking to see her little tears. We reassure her that we are not going to harm her, slow down, pat her and try to soothe her. It starts off as a cry and very quickly becomes a high- pitched wail. We are upset by this and have at times cried ourselves. What are we doing wrong?

Hi rr and welcome to the site :) :)

Just to reassure you that this is pretty normal at such a young age my dd used to scream the house down when we removed any of her clothing, they don't like to feel the air on thier skin they have been warm and snug for so long...it does get better i can assure you.

I'm also just going to pop this over to the activity forum as you will receive more reponses there, hope you don't mind    :)

Hi and welcome :)

Here's a link to a thread that has some great ideas!

Sounds like your LO does not like to be naked, which is not at all uncommon.  Try to keep her covered as much as you can and see if that helps.  She will grow out of the eventually, in the meantime, you'll just get very fast at diaper changes ::)

Hi Erin,

many thanks for your advise. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I get seconds to read e-mails, but only today had the extra time to figure out how to reply to you.
I found the links helpful.
Thanks again,Roisin
