Sandwich ideas?
« on: March 16, 2007, 14:19:12 pm »

Hello all.

Lo loves sandwiches for her lunch, but I keep giving her same filling (mainly, cheese, jam or banana).
I am not to keen to give turkey or chicken at mo with all the bird flu etc...

Any ideas???

Thanks.

p/s She is 1y/o, but only has 1 tooth, so can't be anything too tough! :)

I'm not sure where you are...but my Ped told me that around a year that the introduction of fish is okay...as well as egg (and egg yolk I think after 9 months)...So that being said...tuna sandwich? Egg salad? Or I know my DS loves ham....

Have you tried giving her "wraps" ? I would break up the tortilla into strips and then make mini ones...usually he took them apart but he's got the hang of it now...in fact we had tuna wraps for lunch yesterday! ;D

Cream cheese is a hit with my DD. They sell Strawberry Cream Cheese, which she loves. It's a nice change from using preserves with or without a very thin layer of creamy (no nut chunks) peanut butter.

DD loves cheese, and she's always loved Grilled Cheese Sandwiches too. However the problem we have with that is that she can sometimes be a slow eater, then the cheese gets cold and it isn't quite as good as when it was hot and gooey. But this is a great way to squeeze in more dairy in her diet on those days when she doesn't want to drink much milk.

my lo loves those mini pitas they sell, with multigrain and flax in them. i cut the top off and spread the bottom wiht creamcheese and lunchmeat, he loves the combination of meat and cheese! we use turkey and ham.
also loves the same thing on tortillas.

Ham, ham and cream cheese, cream cheese and pineapple, Nutella (not sure if you get that?), peanut butter and jam, cheese and gherkin, left over meat (dd2 has only yesterday got her very first tooth and manages fine on tender/thinly sliced meat), avocado and cheese, Marmite (most likely don't get that!).... can't think of anymore.  I too get very stuck for ideas!
