1) whole wheat or multi-grain (I read the ingredients to make sure it really is.) I try to avoid breads that have "high fructose corn syrup" or "hydrogenated fats"... but depends on sale prices, sometimes. Same bread that we eat.
2) vegs: green beans (sometimes), broccoli (more likely to be eaten if w/cheese sauce), sweet potatoes, baked or mashed potatoes (sometimes w/cheese or a bit of butter & sea salt), carrots (sometimes). Some of the vegs I get canned w/o salt (softer & less work). I can also sneak lots of other veggies into lasagne, spaghetti, meatloaf & other casseroles. (spinach, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, carrots, etc.) Oh, tomatoes... such as spaghetti sauce, that sorta thing (cooked). I'm sure he'd eat others... just been in a cooking "rut" lately.
3) fruits: whole apple (peeled - does better w/this than chunks), canned pears, canned peaches (both cut in chunks), lately he'll eat fruit cocktail (I cut the grapes), bananas (either straight out of the peel, while dad holds, or chunks tossed in crushed bran flakes), berries (frozen, then cooked in microwave) added to yogurt, mango (very pulpy, so I puree & add to cereal or yogurt), cantaloupe (sliced, while dad holds the rind).
Also, since you mention grilled cheese sandwiches... we don't use standard margarine (hydrogenated fats). We either use real butter, or a non-hydrogenated margarine (such as Smart Balance).
