awake for 5 hours before bedtime
« on: March 20, 2007, 18:10:24 pm »
I have a (maybe stupid) question. Since 3 nights my 7 month old lo sleeps through the night (from around 7 till around 6). But he refuses to take a catnap and is awake for around 5 hours before bedtime. I think he can handle it, he gets tired of course but sleeps ok, no wakings in 1-2 hours after bedtime. Is this ok or is it harmful for him to be up for such a long time?

sasha could do 4hrs b4 bedtime at that age!!i started moving her naps later so her awake time was more evenly spaced so that she did not become overtired.
personally i would watch his cues and if he still sleeps thru start moving your naps later so he is not awake for so long

ok that's a relief! He wakes up early in the morning (around 6) so at around 8.30 is tired again, but we'll try to keep him awake a little longer! I love him so much for sleeping through the night  :-* hope he keeps doing this!

Hi

How old is you lo his picture looks so much like my lo it's weird.  My lo is six months and he is awake 4.5 - 5 hours and is coping with it.

He wakes early too though usually about 6.

yep last night slept through again  :-* awake once but put himself back to sleep!
My lo is 7 months 1 week old now. I was always stressing about him being awake for too long but it seems he can handle it and sleeps fine! They keep on surprising you don't they! Little lamb, hope your lo will sleep better soon (mine just did it 4 days ago! I stopped giving him the 10 pm feed and he slept!)!

Ooh, I'll have to try that.  A couple of nights ago, I attempted to skip it and she was having none of it.  But I'll keep trying, thanks for the tip!

I read on BW that you can also do it gradually, decrease the amount of formula or minutes of bf. Maybe you can try that? Good luck hope it works for you too!
