Sit or Crawl?

Don't know if this is the right place to post but...do babies normally sit or crawl first?

In my understanding...sitting does come first...although there is the odd "scooter", who will turn tummy time in a chance to crawl....

Although once they're able to crawl, they will be able to put themself into the sitting position.

I guess I should have been more specific...

My daughter has been able to sit up on her own for months now (when put into the sitting position). What about going from laying down to sitting up on their own (so getting into the sitting position independently).

Does that make sense?
