Planned to start solids but sick....
« on: March 25, 2007, 16:36:33 pm »
Hi!
My LO is just about 5.5 mo. In the last couple of weeks it seemed like he was ready for something more than just breastmilk....was hungry between feeds (giving me the hunger cry)...so I checked with his ped and got the OK to start solids. I was planning to start tomorrow (b/c DH will be home and he wants to experience it too!) but now my DS is sick. He has a cold and cough and is congested. He's doing great with it though...is still pretty happy and playful! Sleeping is tough b/c of the congestion though. Anyway...was just wondering if I should hold off on the introduction of solids till he is better. Maybe wait a week or so? Or would it be ok to introduce a little? I was planning to start with just some rice cereal mixed with breastmilk.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
~Jaci

If he seems generally happy and OK I see no wrong to give him little. But if you feel little bad dont, there is not bad for waiting until he is all good.

There is absolutely no reason why holding off is a bad idea. He probably won't take more than a teaspoon the first time anyway, but this is all new and if it will make you feel better to wait a week then go for it. I remember I was so excited to start my LO on solids, but I just didn't feel it was right so I waited.. and waited... and finally when she was around 7 months I gave her some rice cereal (she hated it btw!).

Go with what your mummy instinct tells you. It seems to me that you are having your Mummy Radar on and it's telling you to just wait another week, and the Radar is rarely wrong.. ;)

Thanks Ladies!!
You were right...my mummy radar is on and it's just not the right time. Today was going to be the big day but he had a really bad night last night and although he was still fairly happy today - it just wasn't right.

I'll wait a week or so!

Thanks for the advice!!
