Recipe for playdough
« on: March 31, 2007, 10:08:23 am »
I thought i would post this, this is my recipe for playdough, its easier and much cheaper than the bought stuff, and at least once your LO has ruined it by mixing the colours and its gone hard its simple enough to make more :)

Playdough Ingredients:-

1 Cup                    Plain Flour
1 Cup                    Salt
2 Teaspoons          Cream of Tartar
1 Cup                    Cold Water
1 Teaspoon           Cooking Oil
Food Colouring

Method:-

Place all dry ingredients in a saucepan, add water, oil and food colouring.  Stir continuously with a wooden spoon over VERY LOW HEAT.  Will only take a few minutes.

I always seem to mess up my playdough - burning it is my biggest problem.  This is a recipe that I have used that doesn't require cooking.  It is very similar to the original recipe posted.  I find it works everytime for me...

2 cups of flour
2 cups of boiling water
1/2 cup of salt (mix into the boiling water)
a few drops of food colouring
2 tbsp cream of tarter
2 tbsp of oil

Mix salt into the boiling water and stir.  Add the rest of the ingredients.  If it is too sticky add more flour.

The nice thing about home-made playdough is you know what is in it if they eat some, and if your child has allergies you can switch the wheat flour for rice flour.
