« on: April 02, 2007, 05:29:58 am »
LO is 1 year old and we need to switch from formula milk.  :-\

Anyone else have a LO get a rash when trying dairy produce?

When we tried cows milk she got instant nappy rash, spots all over her bum, and yoghurt gave her a rash all over her legs and torso, thats a sign thats shes allergic right?

We tried her with goats milk which didnt cause any rashes.........................but is apparently low in folic acid, vitamin B12,   anyone had to use goats milk and got any advice for me please?

That does sound like a cow's milk allergy to me. What formula was she on prior to this?

Have you tried fortified soy milk?

I can attest to the fact that goats milk saved our LO!  It has been a god-send!  From the very first bottle we gave, all the problems (rashes, throwing up, etc...) stopped.  DS is still on it.  He also has goats milk yougart and cheese.  It's available pretty much anywhere where I live.

Here are some handy links :

http://www.whiteegretfarm.com/html/vscows.html

All the hypo-allergenic formulas didn't work (Nutramigen, Alimentium, etc...) for DS.  We have gone to the dietian and Natropathic Dr. to make sure that the right vitamins are added to the goats milk.  Up until he was 10 months old we add a multi-vitamin & vitamin D drops.  The only thing we add still are vitamin D, but that will just be until summertime.  I wouldn't be worried about the folic acid bit, but if you are, ask a Dr. how best to add it.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me.
Allison

I forgot to add ... in my research and discussions with specialist, the most common allergies are in this order :

milk
soy
coconut oil (which is in ALL pre-digested, hypo-allergenic formulas)
wheat

Well, update...........we tried goats milk, she did ok with small amounts but after we had increased it gradually she had the same reaction that she had to the cows milk,  :( :( we have seen a paediatrician, he listened to our description of what happened with her, told us to go back to using formula for 6 - 12 months and that it was nutritionally fine for her, he also referred us to a nutritionist for us to get extra advice on diet and vitamins etc...........

Its a pain, but thats life,  :o

It could be lactose - that's in goat's milk too. Ds has the same thing.

We use Rice Milk and it's been great. Got to make sure you buy the one fortified with calcium, though.

I don't know where you are, but here's a link to the one we use http://www.tastethedream.com/products/product/1467/202.php

(actually that's an American site - the packaging's different, but that's the one we use)

There are a lot of people that react to goats milk aswell as cows milk. If your dd was ok on the formula milk I can't see a problem with her still drinking it but obviously that is my personal opinion and not from a medical point of view. My son is on neocate advance which smells awful but he really likes it now and that is an elemental formula.

our lo had very severe colic, nothing helped and he refused to drink any medicated formula ie nutramagen. At 5 months we put him on goats milk formula after talking with a friend, and he was a differant baby in 24hours!!
At 12 months The Paeds put him on soya formula which he is also tolerating well. have you tried this? maybe discuss with GP
