She currently has 3 x 8 oz bottles per day - is this too much?

16-18oz of milk (2 bottles) is enough, aswell as whatever milk products she has like cheese, or yogerts. If she is having 3 bottles then its time to start pushing more solids and decreasing the amount of milk she's having, now the nutrients she needs is from food not milk.

DS (22 months) drinks about 20 oz per day in a sippy cup, along with lots of cheese and yogurt.  I know that is a lot of dairy, but he loves his milk so much..... :-[ :-[

Also, it does not affect his appetite, so I am not really worrying right now.

to much milk can cause constipation (especially cheese) Just keep an eye out for that :)

Different pediatricians have differing recommendations on this one, but in general, most recommend somewhere between 16-24oz per day.  That said, if your lo drinks 24oz a day AND eats good meals/snacks with a wide variety of foods, it's probably fine.  If she's not doing well with solids or doesn't seem to be eating much, you might want to cut back on the milk and encourage more table foods.

Just wanted to pop in and say good advice.  I was wondering the same thing.  My DD is currently taking 4OZ sippy at 7Am 2OZ sippy with breakfast, 4OZ sippy before lunch, and supper and a 6 oz bottle at bed time.  she is also a small eater.  does anyone have a better schedule then the one I have and should I be cutting down on milk as she is a small eater.  We just took the am bottle away and will be taking the pm bottle away when she switches to cow's milk when she turns one.

My daughter is just over a year old and she has 20oz in a day and proper meals. I am starting to wean bottles. So she has an AM and PM bottle and milk in sippy cups as 'snacks'. She seems to be losing interest in those, however. So she is likely taking in less than 20 now. I am glad you asked this question as I was wondering as well.

Nee-Maybe cut out the 4oz before lunch and replace it with a snack (fruit, yogurt).  That could be a start.  AM and PM milk should go last.

Elise's mum,

My LO was also loosing intresed in her sippy's and would rather drink water out of them and when I replaced her Am bottle with a sippy,  she seemed to drink more oz from her sippy cups after that.

Will they drink enough milk if given concurrent with the meal instead of before/after?  That is my fear... and then I don't want to follow her around all day trying to get her to drink because I have found when that happens, she is less apt to drink...

Well.... what I do is if she dosen't drink her milk......... hardly ever happens ::)  I just make sure to giver more milk products that day.  They need a minimum of 2 to 4 milk servings a day dosen't need to be milk.

the 16-24 oz that you recommend is just cow milk?  My LO drink 7-8 oz of cow milk in the morning and 10 oz of breastmilk in evening.  He does not want any yogurt and does not eat cheese alone.  I have to hide the cheese in his food.  Since we are asians, it is hard to hide cheese in his food often.  Anyone has any suggestions about yogurt and cheese? Thanks

our pedi said that cows milk is overrated and that their is no minimum he recommends as long as the child is getting 2-3 servings of dairy. but if he does drink lots of cows milk, to limit it to 20 oz. a day
