dropping the dream feed
« on: April 10, 2007, 14:11:52 pm »
Hi,
My LO is 7 months old this week and has been on solids for over a month. She still has 5 milk feeds a day,3 breastfeeds and I have recently started weaning her onto bottles,so is on 2 bottles at the moment.I've noticed that she isn't that interested in her first feed of the day,she will only stay latched on for just about 10 minutes if that, then refuses to have any more. She still has a dream feed at 10:30(5 oz bottle),so i'm wondering if she needs it still.I got her weighed today and she has gone up quite a bit on her weight line, the health visitor said to try and cut down to 4 milk feeds, and to try dropping the last feed.Is it a good idea to do it in 4 day increments like Tracy describes in her book or is it worth seeing if she'll go without straight away.I feed her about 6:45 before she goes to bed at 7pm.Should I just make her feed a bit later,or just give it a go as it  is now.She generally wakes between 6am and 7am,usually 6:30am.Any advice much appreciated..thanks.

Clare

When I removed the df from my son I did it cold turkey and it worked for us.  I didn't change any other feeds at all.  My son was angel and adapted really quickly to anythign I implemented (except for sleeping through now, which is another story ::))  Depending on your lo, you may prefer to try Tracy's method.

Good luck.  :)

HAve you seen the link in the FAQs about the dreamfeed?

You can try to cut down to 4 feeds by dropping the df, but milk does still need to be the most important part of her diet for quite some time still.  You may drop a feed, but that amount will probably be picked up somewhere else during the day.
