Author Topic: Thumbs up or down for Bumbo seats? (Read 4592 times)

Anyone out there tried their lo in a Bumbo seat? If so would you recommend we buy one. DD is quite sicky and sitting upright helps a lot so this seems like it could be a good idea.

We LOVED ours. BUT, they're so expensive and get used for such a short period that I would reccomend buying one on ebay or on consignment. They're very washable.
We used ours as a high chair for a while when DS was just starting on solids too.

We really like ours too!

Seems to work well for for feeding solids. Just a side note, though. If your baby spits up a lot, this seat might not be the best. Baby is really bent at the waist in this chair, putting a lot of pressure on the tummy, so it might make spit ups worse. HTH!

My LO loves his bumbo and it's great for getting wind up

. He's a refluxer so I have learnt from experience not to leave him in it for too long!

We tried Ryan in a friends before we went out to buy one , if like Ryan ,your LO has chunky legs then it's a tight squeeze and doesn't look comfortable ,we didn't buy one

I tried the Bumbo for a little while. It was very cute to see him sitting up, but he was so fidgety he got himself out pretty quickly. I have no idea how but he did. For me it was good if I was sitting right next to him, but I wouldnt ever walk away for a second with him because he was always squirming out. Just my experience. If he wasnt so squirmy, I would have loved it.

Alex fell out of hers when she was 6 months, so wouldn't recommend when they are getting active. She got a nasty bump on her forehead.
They are not worth the money and considering they are recommended up to 13 months In my opinion a complete rip off.

we used ours from 3 months as dd was really good at holding her head up. She loved loved loved having a different perspective on things after laying on the floor all the time and was so happy in it! She was sitting unaided at before 6 months and I am sure the bumbo helped. We also used it when she was first on solids, and then when she was bigger and in the highchair, we still used it for snacks. Also handy to take outside in the summer! Yes they can be expensive but we are hoping to have dc #2 at some point in the next 18 months so just looked on it as an investment and it's now with the rest of the baby stuff in the attic waiting...

Miranda has chunky legs, but we got her one anyways... coz she just loved it so much. She didn't mind having some squeeze mark on her thigh and she really enjoyed looking around her world from a different view

We got her a high chair around 6mo, coz it's really hard to get her chunky legs out from her Bumbo seat. When I look back, I really think using Bumbo seat only for 3mo is really short period of time and the price!!! But we really enjoyed it. I'ld sugget you to borrow it from a friend, or buy 2nd hand if you can

we got one for dd2, she had a flat head, it looked good, it sounded good, it was a waste of money, anyone want a free one, hardly ever used, when they are little you have to sit with them, dd2 used to arch herself, it did not seem like she enjoyed it much

We didn't have one for dd1, but we got one for dd2 and she could sit in it from about 2 months on as she had good head control. She really loved the perspective, still does, but I have to watch her carefully now as she's quite fidgety while in there. Seem to be very mixed reviews - I would try it out somewhere if you could -- or buy one somewhere where you can return it if it doesn't work for your LO.

We've actually bought one knowing that we can return it within 28 days if we don't like it. So far she's been quite happy in it. She only sits in it for about 5 or 10 mins at a time as she's still very little. But she seems happy. (Her big brother certainly like it!)

we have a chunky monkey so we had the spit up problems and the legs were a tight squeeze. it was easier to get him in & out if he had pants or sleeper on. it was really hard for me to pull him out of it though! we just lent ours to a friend. i'm not sure if it would make their back comfortable. i never kept our LO in it for very long. we stopped using it recently b/c he kept arching his back in it and fussing after a few minutes. i assume they'll let us know if something is wrong.

for the next one, we'll definitely get a tray for it.

DS had reflux and bumbo seemed to help the spit up and wind. I could never lay him flat after feeds so this helped. He'd only be in it for 10 mins after a feed and he'd break wind and then the feed would stay down and he didn't seem uncomfortable. He used to take his snacks in it for quite a while (until about 10 months) and we used to take it to the swimming pool with us so that he could sit safely while I got dressed. Great for camping too!

We have one and love it. It's wonderful as a booster seat at restaurants and I sit it on the bathroom counter so she can watch me getting ready. I plan to use this instead of a high chair when we start solids in a few weeks.

We also have the spit up problem so I don't use it immediately after feeding. But, the flip side of that is that it's good for getting out burps.

Our babe is on the smaller side, I know some have the problem of thighs getting stuck, but that hasn't been a problem for us.

We have the tray too!

malialeanne, please be careful when putting your daughter on a raised surface when using the bumbo. Alex toppled out of hers, she was about 5.5-6months. (thankfully she was on the floor) I think that you should only use it on the floor, it says it on the box. I think that they can be quite dangerous, she had a nasty bump, it actually said ont he the box that they should be used only onthe floor. Wouldn't recommend one myself.

Yes, thanks. I was going to add to my post that I only do that when I'm sitting literally right there and never take my eyes off of her, and now that she's more mobile I plan to keep it on the floor!

In my own opinion they are a compleat waist of money. I know many mom's who bought them at $80 each and said after they waisted their money on them. Bumbo's are great for helping them sit, but as soon as they move even a little they can be very dangerious. I know one of my friends DS's fell out of it and hit his head, he ended up with a split open head

needed stitches and all. Don't get me wrong, used the way they're intended most people wont have a problem, but in all fairness they really only get a couple months use at the most anyway.

We had one of those bath rings with the suction cups on the bottom and used it on the floore while we were there. It was only $3 and she used it for baths and on the floore for play. She also couldn't fall out because there was a bar on the front that held her in. She loved it.

Bouncy chairs are a great way for your LO to have a new very, and excersaucers are great when they're older too.

I got a bumbo for ds2 and we use it daily. He maybe spends 15 - 25 minutes in it in total throughout the day. For those of you with 2 under 2, it has been very convenient.

And I have to admit that we use ours on our dinner table while we have our family dinner.... but dp and I are both there watching him closely. He enjoys being close to us while we all eat together.

The good thing about them is that they have a very high resale value, so you might not lose one penny when you are finished with them.
