Our 5.5 mo old dd is a fantastic night sleeper: last bf at 7:00pm, to bed at 7:30pm and sleeps through until about 4:00 or 5:00am, when she wakes up hungry (I am exclusively BF'ing). We did not implement a dream feed because by the time I found the BW books, she was already doing so well at night, I didn't want to disrupt it.
However, I have a question on the timing of feeds (not sure if this is the right forum). Over time, she is sleeping longer and longer, going from 4:30am to recently 5:30 or 5:45am before she wakes up. She is on a 4 hour EASY, and starts her day usually around 7:30am.
I'm finding that this 5:30 or 5:45am feed is quite disruptive to her day because she is never hungry when she wakes up at 7:30. I've tried feeding her only one side during that early feed (although she could clearly eat more, she seems satisfied enough to fall back asleep), which sometimes works, and other times, she's still not hungry at 7:30 and so ends up taking very little (which starts a "snacking" problem for the day because then she won't be able to go the whole 4 hours until the next feed).
Is the solution just to keep offering her less and less at that 5:45am feed, and wait for her to sleep longer and longer until she eventually wakes up at 7:00am only, and has eliminated her "night" feed? I had heard that a 5:30 wake up is an easy one to become a habit, so I'm looking for some advice to help prevent this.
Many thanks!
