How much egg is ok?
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:53:58 pm »
DS loves Egg in any shape or form, scrambled, dippy, omlete, even hard boiled and cold. I've heard before that there is a limit to how much egg you should give your child a week. Does anybody know what this limit is?

TIA
Love

great question, dd1 is the same, loves eggs, wants one every morning, she has 4-5 a week and that does not include what is in cooking, it's an excellent source of protein

I follow the every other day rule... I think I read that in Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron.

I feed my son an egg pretty much every day.

I was going to say and quote the exact book Rachel (PaigeJalyn) mentions above.

I think the main concern should be to avoid cooking them in or with too much unnecessary fat.  My DS loves eggs as well, so I usually poach on toast, soft boil/dippy's or when I make omelettes, I hardly use any butter and use a non stick pan.  Once in a while we have fried eggs and I do them in the pan with olive oil.  Notice I say "we", as it is me that likes a fried egg sandwich so much!  ::) :P :-[

Tyler probably eats egg at least 4 days out of the week.  He would probably eat them every day if we let him.

Eggs are a good source of protein for the LO's.  I just think of the egg as part of the daily protein serving for DS.  I believe the typical serving size for protein is 2 servings per day.

My DS will only eat breakfast if I give him french toast.  So DS gets 1 egg almost every day since the egg is used to make french toast. The egg counts as 1 protein serving.  If you are worried about LO having too much cholesterol, then try balancing the rest of the foods LO consumes during the day.  Eating low cholesterol foods and low saturated fats would be a good idea.

I try not worry too much about DS getting too much egg as long as DS is not eating a high cholesterol diet.
