is it a bad reaction to sweet potatoes?
« on: April 14, 2007, 11:13:10 am »
hello everyone yesterday i started my son on sweet potatoes and he pooped like 4 times i only feed it to him twice yesterday. his poop was not runny it was normal for three of them and the other one was the color of the sweet potatoes but none of them was runny. he loved the sweet potatoes and ate all of it but of course he will eat just about anything you put infront of his face. so i was wondering if i should stop the sweet potatoes? he usually only poops once a day. and if i should stop them when can i introduce a diffrent veggie. i know there is a 3 to 4 day Wait but is that only if you keep feeding him the new food. what should i do thank you guys for all of your help.

When I feed my ds sw. potatoes, we have the same result.  I think what you experienced is normal. I actually found that it worked great to help him poop.  The idea for the waiting period is to give that particular food for 3-4 days to see if there is a reaction.  Should you not have one, then you can add that food into the regular feeding schedule.  I would be careful to make sure you mix up the veggies by color though due to carotinemia where the lo gets an orangish tinge.

If increased poop was his only reaction I wouldn't be concerned - could just be his system adjusting. If it keeps up or you notice other reaction symptoms let us know. Good luck!
