help for sleep disturbed mommy of a 13 month old
« on: April 15, 2007, 19:54:14 pm »
hi, mommies out there!  i am a mom to a 13 month old boy and am hoping for some help with his sleep!

i have used the baby whispering way since parker was just a newborn.  he was falling asleep independently until about 2 weeks ago and then began to feel like i had to be around him for him to sleep!  i think it is a case of separation anxiety!  i took the advice from this message board and slept in his room for 2 days and then moved out.  now the problem is still that he will not go to sleep unless i am in the room with him!  he is waking up 4-5 times per night--i leave him to cry his mantra cry and when it escalates, i go into his room to find him standing up.  as soon as i lay him down, and stand by the door, he quickly goes back to sleep...if i try to leave and do the WI/WO technique, we just get incessant crying that has lasted two hours!  how do i get him to be able to fall asleep without me in the room?

we haven't had any changes in our life and we have been on a routine for months.  here it is:

wakes 6:15-6:45
breastfeed at 7:00
eat breakfast at 8-8:15
nap at 9-9:15
up at 10:30
breastfeed at 11
lunch at 12
nap at 1-1:30
up at 3
breastfeed at 3
activity
dinner at 4:00
snack at 6
breastfeed at 7
bedtime routine starts at 7
then in bed between 7:30-7:45

any help?  he still needs two naps during the day and has always bea short napper (45-50 minutes, but never cranky during the day).

do i need to change his routine?  do i need to change his bedtime?  do i need to just be patient?

any help is appreciated!

I think that he might be ready for the 2-1 transition.  Take a look on the naps forum, there is a sticky thread there with loads of info.  Have a look and see what you think.  If you still think it's SA then we can take another look
