Older sibling refuses to nap
« on: April 17, 2007, 02:34:22 am »
For the past 4 days, my DS (22 months old) has refused to take his nap. Of course he is super cranky by evening b/c he still NEEDS it. I know this is related to the new baby b/c his sleep in general has gone bad since the day I went into the hospital but this is his latest thing. Has anyone else gone through this with an older sibling when a new baby arrived? Is it possible that he is dropping his nap altogether or will he go back to napping eventually? I don't know what to do to get him to nap!

I think most mothers on this board go/went through some sleep issues (with the arivial of a new baby) so you are not alone. I did and it lasted for about 2 weeks. Mine was only 13months at the time but we had some bad night wakings and refusal of naps (although she was also going through the 2-1 switch)... I don't think he's ready to give it up just yet (the av age is 3). I would still attempt to nap him everyday and even if he's not napping, he's having some quiet time in his room/cot. Try for an extra long wind-down and I would also give him a super early bedtime for a few days to let him catch up on sleep....

Do you think you could post your routine for us? When did he used to take a nap?
