How to teach the meaning of 'wait' in baby sign?
« on: April 17, 2007, 18:00:41 pm »
I am not quite sure if i am posting this in the appropriate place...feel free to move it.

My question is, how do i teach my dd the 'real' meaning of the sign 'wait'??

I know technically, it is still early to tell dd to wait....i know she won't understand it.  However, she is picking up her signs very fast and i know this is something i will need to teach her.

I might be able to teach her the sign for 'wait', but how do i infer its meaning?

Any ideas?  I know we have a board of very smart mummies...help!

I haven't signed with my girls, but what if you did a countdown - like the sign for "wait" and then the numbers 3-2-1 or something like that and then did whatever.  You can start with a smaller time increment and increase it -- at 1, even waiting for 3 seconds is like an eternity! :)

is she walking?  you coudl play a game saying walk, walk, walk - WAIT - now walk again, walk, walk etc  (guess you could do that with clapping or some other action if not walking)
