18 month old waking in the night and wants to be rocked
« on: April 18, 2007, 07:15:17 am »
My daughter was doing good for about a week and then the night wakings started again.  Before when she would Wake up would would rock her (OOPS) and she would go back to sleep awake.  This time she will not go back to sleep and we don't know what to do.  She is on a pretty good schedule.  She naps everyday about 12:30pm for about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours and goes down about 7:30 or 8:00pm and wakes between 7-8am.  I just want her to sleep through the night consistently we go for about 1 to 2 weeks sleeping through and then something happens like sickness, had  to be out late or whatever and then she wakes in the night.  This time she has been waking for about 2 weeks so I believe there is a habit that has been formed (ROCKING).  Please any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

How does she go to sleep for bedtime and naps.
Have you done any sleep training in the past?
What is your daytime routine with regards to wakeups and naps and bedtime.

She takes her naps very good we do a short routine tell her animals to take a nap and then she kisses them all and goes down awake.  Same at night except routine includes a bath and a story also.  We have done a lot of sleep training.  We did the baby whisperer and the sleep lady combo.

7:00-8:00am  wake  up
8:30am breakfast
12:30-1:30pm nap
2:30_4:00pm wake up  her nap length varies
5:00-6:00pm dinner
6:30pm  bath
7:15-7:45 bed

OK, as she goes to sleep independantly for bedtime and naps without rocking, she could be waking just for you to rock her, so you need to break this habit.  Try an earlier bedtime of about 15-30mins to ensure that she isn't overtired and when she wakes I would do WIWO until she falls to sleep.  She might resist it as she is now used to being rocked but she should catch on soon enough if she is able to go to sleep without being rocked at bedtime.
Good luck
