Changing from 3 hourly feeds to 4 hourly
« on: April 23, 2007, 07:15:09 am »
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board, I have a baby girl (Isobel) who will be 12 weeks tomorrow.  I want to change her feeds from a 3 hourly feed to a 4 hourly feed but not sure if this is a good idea or how to?  I tried it for 1 day last week but she woke up during the night because she really missed out on a feed during the day, so the next day I went back to the 3 hourly feeds.  Would it be better if I added 15 minutes on to each feed, so like this?

day 1 7:00, 10:15, 1:30, 4:45, 8:00 df 10:00 or 11:00??
day 2 7:00, 10:30, 2:00, 5:30, 9:00 df 10:00 or 11:00??
day 3 7:00, 10:45, 2:30, 6:15, what happens here?
day 4 7:00, 11:00, 2:00, 6:00 df 10:00

I'm unsure what I do with the last evening feeds & the dream feeds, can anyone help??

If your LO is showing that they are ready for the transition then yes do it 15 minutes at a time so that its a slow but steady transition, at 12 weeks it may be a little early yet, however thats dependent on your LO. She'll let you know if she isn't ready. Continue with a 10:30pm dreamfeed.
We would do a 3-5-and 7 feed then dreamfeed at 10:30, tweak the routine around till you find what works for you :)
