Waking them up
« on: April 24, 2007, 11:39:46 am »
Do you ever have to wake ur LO early from a nap? I did today as my mum was taking him to see my gran so he slept just over 1 hr , he looked so unhappy at being woken up and now I feel terrible and selfish :'( I never ever wake him (usually I'm trying to extend naps ;)) how about everyone else?

i am always waking one of the girls up, dd2 only 10 months hardly ever wakes on her own, i had so many sleep issues with her in the fiest 6 months that i am way to frightened to let her sleep any more than 3 hours in the day, she never wakes at night any more, dd1 more than 2 1/2 is not good if she is woken, she can cry for a whole hour, wants up, wants down, wants to drink, doesn't and on and on, it is just awful, i had decided to not wake her again, but just recently she has been fighting her nap so she goes down way to late and then sleep way to late and then goes to bed way to late

no, one hour is not long enough for an 18 month old, don't forget to get back to us and tell us how his day went

I can't let Alex sleep later than 2.30pm, so I have to wake her then.  Sometimes, if she fights nap then I wake her after just 45 minutes, but I need my evening (selfish I know) as I look after children all day.

I know this is a little late but i've had to wake mine up a few times after an hour. I've also had to wake my 11mo from her morning nap for the last 2 months so getting used to it. I also HATE doing it.

Thanx! he was actually fine on just 1 hr, I suppose when u do it so rarely they don't get overtired as long as u r getting them to bed early enough at night. I am now waking DS up after 2hrs from his nap as I think this is causing early wakings (AGAIN!)

thanx sweetie. i really think the nap is a big thing....spent so long trying to extend it, it now seems ridiculous to be waing him early but that and constant teething are the only things which I think 'change' and cause the EW! Here's our routine ( as it was):

wake 7 ish
Nap 12.30-2.30/2.45 sometimes 3 if he's really tired.
Dinner 6.15
7 bath
7.30 bottle and bed.

The other day he woke 5.30 and Chatted happily to himself till 7 so I really think h'e had enough sleep (After a 3 hr naps the previous day) so am now waking him at 2.30 so will get 2 hrs
This am he woke 6.30
what do u think?

I think that sounds like a good plan for T!

I also HATE waking DD up but usually have to at least for half her naps - sometimes she'd sleep 3+ hours otherwise. I'm so happy when she wakes happy on her own. But this morning I had to wake her at 7:!5 and she was so ed. She was up for 45 minutes last night (didn't need us just having crib party) and wanted to sleep in but I had to wake her to get her to nap by 12:30 or so as I need her in bed asleep by 8 as we have dinner plans! I feel bad...

Scotty gets woken up regulary by one of the kids. Sometimes I have to wake him, tooand feel quite bad for it. They're so grumpy afterwards!

What really helps against the grump is fresh air and a sweetie :)

For LO too  ;)

Good idea to wake him up 2hrs later.... Isabella has been taking 1.5 hrs lately and I really miss the 2hr naps  :(.

Hope T sleeps past 6am tomorrow  :-*
