  Just wondering if milk supply/breastfeeding is more readily established in second or subsequent babies?  With Carter I was a wet leaking mess for months it seemed plus I always felt really full.  This time around I am barely leaking at all right now and rarely feel hard and full ... not that I mind  :)  I am really not worried about low milk supply as this little man is growing leaps and bounds (and I might add can drain a breast in an amazing 9-10 minutes ... I call him my little snapping turtle cause he latches on so quickly and goes to work!).  Maybe it is his eating habits that are keeping my breasts and milk in check ... who knows!  It just seems easier this time around, although more painful (thanks snapping turtle!  ;))

i've often wonder this as well, i used less than one box of breast pads, i was still bfing when i got pregnant, i heard somewhere that your body remembers what to do, i never found it more painful, hugs to you for this, i did find it more uncomfortable with another around, always rushing or trying to hide or work it into when dd1 was asleep or occupied

There are tons of little tiny sphincter type muscles around your milk ducts. Like any muscle they get toned and this is why leaking lessens over time and is usually less with a second or subsequent nursling (but not always).

Engorgement in the early days is often about blood and lymph moving to the milk producing areas as they develop. These areas will theoretically need less 'work' next time.

I had the very same question 18 months ago.  Emma was kind enough to tell me that with 2nd (and more) babies, your breasts get smarter and have learned how to better adjust to the demand.  I never felt full with dd2.

Sounds like Mason is doing great!  You know what to watch for (weight gain, diapers, general contentment...)  :-*

It'd be nice if my stomach muscles could get toned this way!  ;)

I also noticed I leaked much less this time around. Although the letdown was more painful.  :(

Yep, me too... I was soaking breast pads until DD1 was 7 months, and I just realized that it's been a week or so since there's been anything noticeable on one with this baby.  Much less engorgement this time around, too.

Congrats Cathy!!!!  I didn't even know your lo was born.  :) :) :)

Oddly enough, I'm having the opposite happen.  With Owen I didn't leak at all, this time around I'm the leaking mess!  I can't go to bed at  night without putting a receiving blanket down my top to catch the leaking.  Funny how all our bodies are different.

And my letdown is much stronger this time as well.  The other day I was in the shower and tried to take a cat hair off my nipple (TMI) well, it wasn't a cat hair, but my milk squirting out froma  letdown from the shower ::)!  Geez.
