Need help while running errands
« on: May 07, 2007, 19:11:02 pm »
My daughter is 13 months old and is very spirited.  I am in need of some activities or  toy ideas that would keep her occupied while in a shopping cart. She is walking everywhere and wants to explore everything.  Any suggestions would be great!!!

I second the snack idea.
Also, books are very good as well, esp books that have things to do in them (lift the flap, "feely" books, etc).
I know she's a little small for it, but for a while we've done well with discussing everything in the store as we've gone by -- asking her to look for things, putting things in bags for me, putting things in the cart, etc.  Gets her more involved in what we're doing.  :)

Katie is much older than Emily... does she sit in the shopping cart or walk?

We have tried snacks, they just get thrown in the floor.  She is so used to  meal and snack times that she does not want food any other times.  I have not taken books in though.  She loves to "read"

Thanks ladies for your ideas.

My LO is 13mths and loves to be involved in the shopping process.  I ask him to find the bananas, the apples, the bread, the milk,.... He enjoys scanning the surroundings to find them and points in delight when he sees it.

He sits in the shopping cart but loves to turn about to see what is in the cart.  So I make sure he's strapped in.

Thanks for the advice.  I have been planning little more lately.  I am working on going first thing in the morning so that she is happy.  I have started taking snacks, books and one toy.  I have also started giving her the items to put in the big part (of course only the boxes or things she can not break)
We are getting over this hump.

Good to hear :)
Timing has always been really important for us too.  Boy do I know it when I take my dd out when we should be home. :)
