short naps question
« on: May 15, 2007, 03:13:04 am »
I had a few questions.  The babies are 7 months now.  Here's what a typical schedule looks like for us:
7 wake up and eat
8 rice cereal
9/9:30 nap (if any nap is long, it's this one.  it can be as long as 2 hours)
10:30 wake
11 eat
12:30 nap
1:30 wake and I try to hold them off to eat until:
2:30 eat (though I wish it was more like 3 but it's very hard to hold them off)
3:30 nap
4:30ish wake
5 eat again... grrrr still cluster feeding at 7 months!!!???
5:45 rice cereal
6:15 baths
6:45 breastfeed once more and then to bed

I would love it if we could just do 2 2 hour naps a day and maybe still a catnap if needed.  They are SO tired in the evening so that's why we put them to bed as early as 6:45.  And then they sleep till 7 though.  Is that too much night sleep do you think?  Maybe that's why their naps are on the short side?  Any suggestions?

at 7mo some babies are down to 2 naps a day, some still on 3, it all depends on the individual, We were still on 3.
Most babies still on 3 naps will have 2 x 1.5hr naps and a 45min catnap in the afternoon. If yours are having 1 x 2hr and 2 x 1hr then they are absolutely getting the right amount of sleep, just in a slightly different way!
If the routine works for you then I would leave it as is, they will extend their awake times themselves when they are ready to drop the catnap.
The only thing I can think of is they might be undertired and ready for some more A time, so to try to extend their awake time after the first nap, if they wake at 10.30, try to keep them up a little longer before their next nap, this might help them sleep more. Too long and they wil get overtired and sleep less so I would try just maybe 10-15mins to begin with.
hope this helps
