Good foods for sore throats?
« on: May 22, 2007, 02:54:28 am »
My 14 month LO has hand foot & mouth, and consequently has a very sore throat (w/ little sores in it!  :'().  Anyway, she won't eat much except for watermelon & yogurt & juice.  She seems hungry, but wouldn't even touch oatmeal! (I think the heat hurt her throat).  Any suggestions for what I could feed her?

thanks!

Honey is good - it has anti bacterial properties and can really help a sore throat. Can drink it with warm water/milk if she doesn't want to eat it.
Caroline :)

My dd would always eat apple puree when she had a sore throat. I would make it myself and make sure it was really smooth. I used to add a little milk to it aswell to make it even easier to slip down. Milkshakes are a good idea and they don't have to be unhealthy. You can use fresh banana blitzed into milk also strawberries work well.

On a completely different note, I always buy local honey, and that really helps with hayfever. The theory is that the pollen from local flowers is collected by the bees - so the pollen used in the honey is the specific one that's causing the hayfever. It really works :)

Don't buy the ones that have been 'messed about' with, pasteurised or anything, buy as natural as possible

we bought some fruit juice frozen bars for my LO when she had a sore throat.  they are minute maid fruit juice bars and she loves them.  they do have sugar in them though which i hate but it was lower than the other popsicles i saw.  her ped had suggested popsicles.

also - i wanted to invite you to our birth board.  this site has set up different boards according to your baby's bday so moms with LOs the same age can talk.  ours is the jan/feb '06 board.  we talk a lot and we've love to have you.  i'll post the link and you can stop by if you get a chance.

As i understand, when they make it liquid honey they  heat it and screw up the  good things in honey. You will want to look for the all natural , not liquid honey, kinda like a whitish thick spread.

Hope i make sense!

I buy all  natural, unpasturized organic honey.

That's what I have actually! yay- I bought the right stuff!  (although it's from Canada, and I'm in the US- so it's not local, Caroline!  :()

I also bought the pedialyte pops.   ;)

Thanks for the invite, Missy Lou- I'll check it out!

And- yes, she's feeling better- but is still not herself.

Weak herbal tea w/ honey and lemon helped my lo.  What about freezing the smoothie type thing in one of those popscicle containers?
