12 week old waking herself up
« on: May 22, 2007, 08:50:15 am »
Hello,
I'm a new member, but have been using the site from about week 1 for valuable information.
Firstly our daughter is fantastic, very vocal and an absolute joy.

we've recently encountered a bit of a problem, she's been sleeping through untill recently, we recently moved her into a travel cot (temporarily before she moves into the proper cott) out of the moses basket as she was getting too big for it.

Last night was a prime example of what she has begun to do.
After a (late) evening feed we put her down and she struggles to settle, she'll start drifting off and then begins to start moving, raising her legs and then thumping them back down (she doesn't have any problems with wind so we doubt it cholic), this in turn wakes her up.
Either that or she starts rubbing her eyes and at some stage pulls her dummy out waking her up.

If we can get her past this stage she usually drifts off no problems

However she slept through till 1.00am and began to stir and then did this for around 2-3 hours waking drifting, waking etc etc. and then after an early morning feed (3.30) she didnt get back to sleep untill around 5.00 and only napped for around half an hour.

Does anyone have any adivce as to what might be causing this? or as to how we can get her off to sleep without the wriggling and foot thumping that causes her to wake.  the hush pat doesnt seem to work, she more often than not lies there staring at your face gradually waking herself up.

is she in a sleeping bag?  you could tuck the end of it under the mattress and wedge it there with a rolled up towel or something similar to restrict up and down leg movement.  we used to do that with my daughter.  not sure the sides of the cot would be sturdy enough to hold it there but worth a try?

She's not in a sleeping bag, that sounds like a bit of a plan, she's currently just in a sleepsuit and without a blanket, if she does have a blanket we tuck it in on all 3 sides.

It does seem to be the wriggling that wakes her, thanks for your help. I'll let you know if it works.
