TumbleTots ???
« on: May 22, 2007, 17:22:49 pm »
Has anyone been to a tumbletots?  I have just booked Theo and myself up for a taster to see what he thinks.  It isn't really in our area but i wanted to do something different and fun and I am hoping it will be.

Theo loves to climb and has so much energy to burn off. He is so adventurous and so I am hoping that this will suit him and give him the stimulation he needs.  He went through a really clingy stage when teething and wouldn't leave my side and cry most of the time..but thankfully he is much better and now goes of with a creche worker for this course i am doing but that finishes a a couple of weeks and I want him to have something else to do. I am hoping that tumble tots will give him some fun times.

Anyone been, still going, and if so.do you love or did you hate?

TIA
Rhian

*lurking* if you don't mind - it's a bit far for us to the closest one, but I'd be interested to see if it was worth the drive

It looks like loads of fun .Ryan says he wants to go every time he sees the advert for it but the closet for us is Wrexham and that's just too far  :( . We don't have anything like that in this area just a baby gym which really doesn't have that much to do .

I've been thinking about taking Cam - well to the equivalent baby one anyway, and Charlotte to tumble tots, it's just fitting it in with work too.  Will let you know if we make it though x

Lurk lurk!!  I've been wondering about this too, Ellie definitely hasn't inherited my wimpish over-cautious tendencies and i think she'd enjoy it.

I'm also wondering though, do you have to sort of do it with them and help throw them about as l'm not really fit for that at the moment?!

love Michelle xxx

Well, Ladies - I am an experienced Tumble Totter.

When I lived in Leeds, I took Elin from 7 months (youngest you can go is 6 months) till we left in july last year.

I thought it was great.  Firstly, I took Elin cos I needed to get out of the house and see some adults - she didn't benefit much from the first class as she was a late crawler and not a very adventurous child, but she enjoyed the singing and action songs and seeing the other babies, plus she got used to the leaders and equipment.

Once they walk, you move to the next class (roughly aged 1-2) which they get to do whatever they like on the equipment - it's not structured, so as mums and dads you can still natter loads too.  You still sing at the start, then again in the middle then they get some balls, bean bags, lummy sticks (you'll find out about them if and when you go  ;)) large balls etc out for the kids to play with too.

Aged 2-3, the class then becomes structured.  Song at the start and end.  Then the kids are put into teams and they work around 4 different stations (stations= equipment set up in a specific week that changes every 2 weeks)

Aged 3-4 they do the same as above, but mums and dads then sit out of the room - this is where we came to the end.

As Elin turned 3 in may and class finished in july, we never bothered with doing the me out of the room bit.

I'm quite sad that I don't get to take her to TT anymore - I had enrolled her in Wrexham for when we moved back, but with her starting pre-school, there didn't seem the need to take her  :(

Anyway - I'd say GO - we had a great time, and Elin is not a very physical child, but she still enjoyed it.

I shall be taking our next one to Wrexham for sure

We do tumble tots here in Australia.  It's often called kindergym here, but for some reason our closest 'gym' is calls it tumble tots.

I love it!  Routine is generally circle time, with songs and actions (star jumps, rocket ships) then there are a variety of activities (usually each week is themed = rolling and jumping, then crawling and swinging). At the end we have circle time again and a large parachute the kids lie under and 'tickle' with their hands.  So cute.

I see it as DD's time to play and have fun and it works a treat for us!

I do Tumble Tots in London and I do not know why I do because my little one absolutely hates it. To be fair she is not the most physical of children so  this is not her 'department'; there is nothing actually wrong with the class is your child enjoys climbing, jumping etc... and the songs etc... it a lovely addition. Hope Theo likes it.

Hi
we tried gym babes and not too sure seemed alot of money compared to bounce and rhyme at the library (free) especially as you have to pay in advance so if you cant go  a couple of weeks... there was  alot less interaction as well than the library  mostly self supervised play ( couldn't help feeling she does that at home anyway!)
The equipment was also too big for my 14lb 5oz little girl  !
Having said all that I think she would prob like it once she is older (providing the equipment is height suitable) ! We may try once she is Toddling! And we can commit every week.
Good luck Hope you find something you like whatever you decide   :)

Thanks ladies for your info. :)

I am still yet to hear from them about going (popular around here and you have to sign up before you go i think). I have sent the reminder to them like they say to if you don't hear anything within 3 days, and still no word. :(   It is a nightmare drive and it is really a big deal for me to do this drive so I hope they hurry up and let me know before I chikcen out and just say it would be too much trouble.........  traffic hotspot and not close to home is all the excuse not to go. lol

Theo is full of energy and needs more places to use it.  I should be 6 stone because he just nevers stops and is a serious climber and too daring. :o

I used to have to travel as well Rhian - that's what comes of living in a supposed scummy part of the city and not the prosperous part.  i had to drive 7-8 miles through Leeds to get there - took 35 mins, but like I say, I felt it was worth it and it filled up the whole afternoon and tired her out sufficiently.

Let us know when you go

Hi guys!!

I started sending Woo to tumble tots in September and he absolutely adores it.. he has come on so so much since he started, in confidence physically and also "emotionally".
The do exercise and singing and dancing and he loves the action songs that they do. The actions to the songs have encouraged him to start to communicate more with us and is enjoying signs and starting to sing to the songs.

One thing I will say is it took him about 6 weeks to get the gist of what they do with the apparatus but now he has learned he loves it.

I'm going to keep him going as long as I can.

Here's my tumble totter!

Cute pic Helen.

Theo loves to sing and do action songs so he will fit in well. He is so adventurous and loves to climb and this is why i think he will love it.
And yay..i just had an email so we are in. :)
