Not all day "lol", but here and there I use either her playpen or booster seat so that I can do stuff like cook or run a quick errand or even take a little break. My LO is 14 months old. What do you guys use? She doesn't really stay in her playpen for long. I do let her watch sesame in her booster seat and she eats snacks in the booster seat.

Just curious what other devices people use if any.

My living room is "baby proofed" and adjoined to the kitchen so we have put a baby gate up and let DS play with his toys in the living room while I cook etc.... I can see him so its all good

We have a gate, but I can't always rely on that. My LO is clingy a lot and wants my attention or to climb up my legs. MY DH is usually working or when he's home he's busy half the time doing stuff like going to the bathroom, using the computer, taking a shower, or what ever. Even if he's in the room, she's more addicted to me than him so she prefers me.

I can't think of anything else you could use, maybe someone else will have a good idea.  Wish DS was clingy a little bit, I can't even get a 2 min cuddle out of him without him shouting "down"!!!!! ::)

One thing is for sure. I sit at her level whether it be in the kitchen, livingroom or her bedroom many times a day.

I didn't know if there was anything fun for them to hang out in like the exersaucer which we have used in the past.

thanks for the advise.

It's hard to tell. I have some toys, balls, blocks, stuffed animals ect. that is suitable for her.
But than - I have a LOT of toys that might be starting to get a little too young for her. She's 14 months old. The toy box and her play pen is full of them.

Never used those to take breaks with. used a bouncy chair and toys, ie playmat/activity mat.

She had an exersaucer at 5 months and we used that as well.

I am really starting to see that we have too many toys that end up overwhelming dd.  I think I will sort through them and put some away.  I recently read about having baskets for certain themes (art, music, books, blocks etc). I think that might work for us.  We seem to have a house filled with toys.

As for as time to get things done... We have never had room for a playpin in our house.  DD does have 30 minutes every morning in her crib to play.  I put a mesh basket of toys, books and stuffed animals in the corner of the crib.  She has a big duck that sits and "plays" with her too.  I open the blinds and play upbeat music.  At first I thought she would be confused about sleep time.  She has done really well understanding the difference between playtime and sleeptime.   I leave the door open, but usually don't come back into the room for 30 minutes unless she has gotten bored.  She would sit and look at one book for about 10 minutes though.

Not really a new idea, but how we do playpin time at our house.

none. Maja goes everywhere and it's all childproofed so I don't worry she can destroy anything. she goes to her room and plays there or reads her books ;) or follows me wherever I go and plays there. if she's super whiny [teething] we have to carry her around a bit more but not that much. she climbs her high chair onse she's in it so I can't sit her there unsupervised. safer on the floor.

Apparently I wasn't reading the post properly ;D

My house is childproofed everywhere and there is a gate above the stairs. She knows that is "danger" and I've never really even seen her pull at it or anything. she goes where she wants, when she wants :)

M loves her fat Crayola crayons and her colouring book and blank paper. She'll scribble for ages. Stamps are good too-you know the type of ink stamps (washable) and blank paper. She will play for ages with her bouncy chair, a pillow and a blanket with her doll or without her doll. She'll move hte pillow around the room with her and lie on it on the floor etc. she also loves to play on our bed with us. strange kid :)

I still lock her into her bouncy chair and let her watch 15 min (never longer unsupervised-I'm too paranoid) with the monitor on, of Tele in the am when I don't want to get up :):):)

Do you have a free drawer or cupboard that is low.  i put things in it like wooden spoons, pots and pans and things and let them play with it.  It's at the other side of the room to my cooker.  Also some tins of beans and stuff, they love that, gives me enough time to put the ketle on!  ;)

our house is child friendly, the only room i am not keen on is the bathroom, i agree with heaps of what pp said, i use few toys, some toys just do not do it, store them, they just take up space, teddies what do you do with a teddy, funny how many you get, dd is 33 months and has only in the last 3ish months started playing with them, dd like activities best, stickers, playdough, sand, water, cooking, music, loves loves to dance, books, these days she reads them to her sister, love the laugh and learn learning home, both my girls love it
