9 month old nap question
« on: May 31, 2007, 21:12:14 pm »
Hi,
My DD is nearly 9 months old.She has been able to handle long 'A' times for her age for a long time, she cut down to 2 naps at just before 7 months.Currently she can handle 4 hrs A time.At the moment she has 1 hr in the morning (10:30 to 11:30),then 1 1/2 hrs in the afternoon (3:30 to 5:00).The thing is I'm wondering whether to stick with these times or swap the naps round,as her last nap finishes so close to bedtime (7pm).I have tried to put her down earlier, but it results in 40 min naps or not wanting to sleep as she isn't tired enough. We are doing the 1 hr nap in am to try and solve 5:30 am wakings,it does seem to be working, but I am still wondering whether it's better to have a longer late morning nap which will eventually become 1 long nap when she cuts out the second nap, then make the second nap a short one just before bed.It is difficult to know as she wants to and can stay up for so long.

Her usual routine at moment is this:-

6:30 wake
7:00 bottle feed
8:00 breakfast
10:30 sleep
11:30 bottle feed
12:30 lunch
3:30 sleep
5:00 tea
7:15 Bed

Any words of advice,thanks.

Does she have trouble going to sleep for bedtime?

Hi there,
I really think that if you are struggling with early wakings that you should keep a short am/long pm nap scenario. When the transition to 1 nap comes (many months from now)---you can keep on shortening the am nap until it dissapears. This is a bit different then what is suggested by Tracy but works for most.

Are you sure that the 1hr am nap couldn't be at 10-11, then may be nap 3:30-4:30. if not, then maybe shorten the am nap to 40min (she is a bit young, but that was my son aswell) and next nap 3.5hrs later.

wake 6:30
nap 10:15-11
nap 2:30-4
bed 7
