not sure about this one, cold or allergy
« on: June 03, 2007, 14:31:57 pm »
On Friday night the family went to a potluck BBQ. My dd (17mths) has some pasta salad and burgers that I did not make. dd has never had anything with nuts in it, but noticed that the salad had nuts after the fact. dd did not eat any nuts, but they were in the salad she ate. Everything that night was fine.
She woke up on Saturday morning with a snotty nose, runny eyes and sneezed at least 30 times during the day. No fever or diarrhea. This morning (sunday) she woke up and she is fine.
Could this have been an allergic reaction to something or was this simply a little cold that she fought off very well only lasting 1 day?

Hi
Is it normal that reactions can come 12 hours or so later? I am not sure exactly what it was that she had a reaction to, but say it was the nuts which she didn't eat, if she had eaten some, could this have caused a more severe reaction that could have been harmful? My dr has told me to hold off on introducing peanut butter or anything with nuts for as long as I can so I have been, but I still am a little worried about this.

Could definitely have been a milk food allergy. I'd just let your doctor know and hold off on any further nut introduction (even that type of salad) until at least 2, maybe 3.

Marisa'sMama, I noticed that you said milk food allergy, just wondering what you meant by that.

I'm sorry - I meant to just say food allergy! I was talking to someone else at the same time on the phone about a milk issue and confused matters!
