How do your kids eat rice?

Hi!  This may be a really dumb question but, how do you serve rice to your kids?  Do you spoon feed it to them or let them pick it up by themselves?  I have always stayed away from rice with my DD because she doesn't like me to feed her with a spoon and it seems too small for her to pick up on her own without making a huge mess.  She is 18 months and still isn't very good with a spoon.

My DS eats it with his fingers. Picks up fistfulls. He also uses a spoon, but lots goes on the tray and on the floor.

ditto that . My lo is 18 months as well. he loves rice and he sometimes uses the spoon and sometimes his hands. I just try to tell him to get it to his mouth. ;)

My oldest uses a spoon now but he used to just use his hands.  my youngest just uses his hands ;D

DS is supposed to use his spoon but he uses his hands when I'm not looking  ::). He's almost 3 now.  What kind of rice do you eat?  The rice we have is generally sticky and clumps together so eating it with fingers isn't so bad.  But we'd rather he not. ;)

alright...don't tell anyone...but my kids eat rice whichever way they can (both of them) dd with her fingers...DS with a spoon and his fingers...

This is the part you're not supposed to tell anyone...

Don't clean it up right away if you can leave it...Once it dries, it wipes and sweeps NO PROBLEM...I spend more time fighting to get it off the table than just walking away and sweeping it later...!!!!

(oh yeah...I usually let them eat it "naked"....lol)

With spaghetti sauce mixed in and a spoon.  She loves it that way.

she'll feed it to herself w/ her fingers or I'll feed it to her w/ a spoon.  Either way it's always a mess.   ::)

We make rice and beans and it still messy but more rice sticks to the beans. He really loves it too.

Thanks for the replies.  It sounds like I will just have to put up with the mess. :P  We are having rice tonight so I will let her try it and see what happens.  Knowing her though, she probably won't even try it because it is new. ::)

When dd was still uncoordinated with the spoon, I would use a stickier brand of rice or clump them into small little weiners.

I do the same thing.   ;D  Sooo much easier to clean up when they are dried.

If you mix it with something (we do lentils and rice and cheese alot, or even add some flax seed--ds even likes rice mixed with tahini) it gets really clumpy, and then ds uses his fingers and the spoon.
