Dropping the late night feeding (Dream Feed)
« on: June 11, 2007, 01:27:32 am »
My Daughter is 11 weeks old and is going through a growth spurt.  She went from 4 ounces to 5 and 1/2 ounces.  Since she has increased her intake - I have increased her time between feedings - 3 hours to 3 and 1/2 hours.  I wonder if I should drop the late night feeding at 10:00.  I have always done 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 - 1:00 - 4:00 - 7:00 - 10:00 - then she would wake up around 3:00 for a middle of the night feed, and then last until 7:00 a.m. to start the routine again.  She was drinking 3 to 4 ounces.  Now, since she has increased her intake - I am thinking of increasing her wake time and beginning a 3 and 1/2 hour schedule:  7:00 a.m. - 10:30 - 2:00 - 5:30 and then last feeding at 9:00.
She began sleeping though the night at 7 1/2 weeks (6-7 hours).

I am worried that the last feeding for the day at 9:00 - will be 9 - 10 hours a stretch.  How long are your children sleeping through the night and at what age did the hours increase at night?

tbh  if you actually did get her to sleep a 9hr stretch at 11wks, do not worry about the nighttime feeds.  if dd wakes and is hungry, then feed her.  but i really see nothing wrong with skipping the df (as long as day ounces are good) and waiting for her to naturally wake....no matter when that may be.

i only tried the df a few times with my dd...it seemed to cause us more trouble than it was worth.  by 12wks, my dd would sleep from 7-1am, then feed...and maybe again around 430/5am and back to sleep till 7/730.

really, just find what works for ALL of you.

how does she sleep during the day?
