Is it possible to change internal clocks?
« on: June 25, 2007, 10:55:09 am »
Ok, here's another tough question.  My DS's day goes from about 6:30am-6:30pm.  I LOVE that he sleeps so long at night, but would also love to change it at least from 7-7.  It is so hard to get him fed and ready for bed by 6 or 6:30...especially in the summer.  It is a pain to leave a barbecue or something so early.  People think we're crazy putting him to bed so early but that is what works for him.

Here's our current routine give or take 15-20 mins:

6:30 wake
10:00-10:30 nap
1:00-3:00 nap (plays a bit and then usually only sleeps 1.5h)
6:30 bedtime

Is there any way to change is times, or am I just stuck with this?

I do think it's possible but it might take a little time.  We do it when the clocks go back and forth so I do think it can be done.

Perhaps you could try doing it gradually, perhaps move 15 minutes ever couple of days.  That's my idea, but perhaps others might have better advice for you.

Mari, thats excatly how I think of it! If it can be done when the clocks change, we should be able to do it toher times too. I think as long as he is well rested, you can start pushing his morning nap in 15min increments, then the pm nap & bedtime. I would definitely start withthe morning nap though cause when I was doing the bedtime 1st, it backfired on us big time!!!

Thanks, I'll give it a try.  Somehow though after we changed the clocks in March we were at 7-7:30 for a while and overtime he has worked his way back  ::) !  He must really like the 6:30 time  :-\

Thanks again ladies :)

I successfully moved Zara from a 5am wakeup to a 6:30 am wakeup.  It took many weeks, but we did it.  And it did involve stretching A times, so that sleep times were later, so just keep an eye out for OT.
