Raw Veg
« on: June 26, 2007, 20:07:20 pm »
Hello

I have a 9 month old daughter who is a great eater.  I try to make lunches that we can both have, but I don't normally cook veg at lunch time.  Is there any veg that is appropriate raw at this age?  Could I give her grated carrot?  Any other ideas?

you could do that, tomatoes (although I know that technically, they are a fruit), cucumbers too.
i cook up some frozen mixed veggies and keep them in the fridge for ds. he will even eat them cold and loves them. bite size too!

Red and yellow pepper sticks, celery, apples and grapes, avocado - we tend to have salad lunches too! You could do pasta spirals in a homemade tomato sauce!

And, as a matter of fact, perhaps chopped watercress or lettuce (romaine?) or soya sprouts, as a "green veggie" sprinkled with a bit of oil or dipped into something?  Boiled beet is another option, one can buy it already boiled.  We also take raw mushrooms here with our salads.  Anyway, try one thing at a time, and tomato+peppers perhaps peeled to begin with.

Thanks for the suggestions - some new ideas for next week!  It is always a challenging serving up exciting meals.  I know avacado is technically a fruit as well, but we have it a lot as a veg for lunch.  Good call on the peeling of the peppers - lo has only one tooth so far!
