What do you do??
« on: June 26, 2007, 21:42:43 pm »
I am wondering what you moms or dads do when baby wakes at night. My dd is 9.5 months and wakes occasionally in the middle of the night. We have steps we usually take in order to see what the problem is. We will usually check her diaper, temp, etc. If that doesn't work we try a bottle.
I'm wondering if by doing those things I'm actually reinforcing the wake up. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Mine is 5 months and wakes usually once nightly between 3:30-4:30 am.  Sometimes she will wake between 11- 1am also if her schedule was off during the day.
I know it's hunger for her, because of the timing and the way she screams.  she is usually also wet, but can't wait to be changed. I bf one side, change diaper, then the other side and if she falls asleep that's ok (but often does not fall back to sleep till in her crib).

Hwn mine used to wake up at around that age, I would also do a quick nappy check & if she seemed ok, I used to leave her. If she started crying, I would do pu/pd. I wouldn't suggest a bottle (if she's not had it before) cause I do believe it can reinforce the wakings.

To be honest, mine did start waking early in the morning around 11ish months & I started giving her a bottle. She kept on waking up & it wasn't until I stopped & did pd instead that she stopped.

Thanks for your help. I didnt know if there was a growth spurt around 9 or 10 months. She was born 9-09. Last night I did feed and she ate 4 oz.. We only made her 4 ounces. Tonight I will try pu/pd after checking on her. Thanks!
