Pre-milestone grizzling
« on: June 27, 2007, 04:48:13 am »
My baby is 10mths old and still doesn't roll or crawl. She has always been grizzly and i've posted about that before.  After seeing a cranial osteopath we had 2 great weeks but then it all came undone again when she cut a tooth.  The past 2 weeks have been horrid...she cries / grizzles allllllllllllllll day long.  I've tried various painkillers, bonjela, things to chew, etc and they make no difference so I've ruled out teething.

At the moment, she is ONLY happy if I walk her around the house (she walks well holding my hands but doesn't pull or stand or cruise furnature).  Could her very fowl mood be due to frustration?  Could it indicate she is on the verge of walking herself?

P.S yes, we've seen paeds for grizzling and lack of crawling etc and they say it is just temperament and are not concerned about her development as her fine motor skills and language are advanced.

It might just be her age. My 10 month old non crawler was a very frustrated and grumpy baby until we introduced a walking ring. I'm not saying it's the best thing, but she was all smiles after that!! If you can stand the grizzling, maybe you should wait it out until she finally gets the hang of crawling. Mine walked on her own at 12 months and crawled at 14 months and I used the walking ring minimally - mainly just to get things done around the house - I know she would have loved more, but we've all heard how bad it is for them!!

Good Luck, Cate

Should mention, she also couldn't pull herself up when she learnt to walk, we taught her how to stand herself up after the fact (all backwards, I Know). An alternative to the walking ring may be to set your lounge furniture up so that she can cruise from place to place and put interesting toys on each chair, this really encouraged her cruising and got her moving around!
