does time of big nap matter?
« on: June 29, 2007, 01:34:49 am »
Hi.  Wondering about timing of son's nap.  I think he'll get best sleep and longer if he does a long am nap.  He's not really showing readiness to consolidate.  He really can't make it more than 4 hrs.

Any downside to this schedule if it best protects his nap...?

6 am - Wake
10:00 (1.5 to 2 hrs) Nap
Approx 3:30 (30 min) Nap
7:45 bed

DD - Luna baby born 1/9/04
DS - Aqua baby born 3/28/06

I know that some recommend limiting the 1st nap, rather than the 2nd... but it looks fine to me. I think it makes total sense to keep a good morning nap and, as it moves later, eventually eliminate the pm nap.

Just don't be surprised if 1) some days you fight for the 2nd nap and don't get it (so earlier bedtime) and 2) DS is a little cranky when woken after 30 min (because it's not a full sleep cycle). My understanding is that it takes a few days for them to get used to the shorter nap.

Good luck! :)

If he is sleeping well at night then don't change anything. Eventually you can try to push the morning nap to noon & get rid of the pm nap :)
